White Oak Seedling
Native Legacy Oak for Wildlife, Timber, and Long-Term Land Value
White Oak is one of the most valuable native oak species for wildlife habitat, timber, and long-term land stewardship. Known for its strong wood, long life, and highly desirable acorns, White Oak is an excellent choice for landowners who want to improve wildlife habitat and plant trees that can benefit their property for generations.
These seedlings are grown from seed in air-pruning nursery beds at White Oak Orchard in South Carolina. Air-pruning encourages dense, fibrous root systems instead of circling roots, helping improve transplant success, establishment, and long-term growth once planted.
Why Plant White Oak?
White Oak is a premium native tree because it offers:
· Highly preferred acorns for deer, turkey, and other wildlife
· Long-term value for wildlife habitat and timber
· Strong, durable wood and legacy tree potential
· Excellent choice for reforestation and land improvement
· Adaptability to a range of soil types once established
· A long-lived native oak that can benefit your property for generations
Best Planting Sites
White Oak performs best in full sun to partial sun and well-drained soil. It is a strong choice for field edges, open woods, wildlife corridors, reforestation projects, and long-term habitat improvement plantings.
Avoid planting in areas that stay saturated for long periods. Young White Oaks benefit from weed control, protection from deer browse, and consistent moisture during establishment.
Wildlife Value
White Oak acorns are one of the most preferred natural foods for deer and many other wildlife species. While White Oak grows more slowly than some faster-producing species, it offers excellent long-term value as a native mast tree.
White Oak is a strong companion planting with faster-producing trees such as Hybrid Chestnut and Sawtooth Oak.
