Hybrid Chestnut Seedling
Grown in Air-Pruning Beds for Superior Root Development
Our Hybrid Chestnut Seedlings are an excellent choice for landowners who want to improve wildlife habitat, establish long-term mast production, and attract deer, turkey, and other game. Chestnuts are highly attractive to wildlife because they produce sweet, high-energy nuts that drop in early fall, helping create a dependable food source during hunting season.
These seedlings are grown in air-pruning nursery beds at White Oak Orchard to encourage dense, fibrous root systems instead of circling roots. A better root system helps improve transplant success, establishment, and long-term growth once planted on your property.
Why Plant Hybrid Chestnut?
Hybrid chestnuts are a valuable addition to a wildlife planting because they offer:
· Sweet, nutrient-rich mast that deer and turkey love
· Early fall nut drop that can help attract wildlife during hunting season
· Strong wildlife value for food plots, field edges, and habitat improvement
· Blight-resistant hybrid genetics with strong growth potential
· Long-term value as a productive mast tree
Best Planting Sites
Hybrid chestnuts perform best in full sun and well-drained soil. They are a strong choice for food plot edges, orchard-style plantings, old fields, pasture borders, and wildlife openings. Avoid planting in areas that stay wet or saturated for long periods.
For best results, protect young seedlings with a tree tube and control weeds around the tree during the first few growing seasons.
Wildlife Value
Chestnuts are one of the most attractive mast-producing trees for deer and turkey. Once established, hybrid chestnuts can provide a dependable fall food source and help improve the nutritional quality of your property.
